The Ivanhoe Times

The Ivanhoe Times began in 1900. There have been several publishers throughout the years of this small weekly newspaper in southwestern Minnesota. We have been here for 30 years of those 123 years. Yes, we celebrated our Centennial for the Times in 2000 along with the Town's celebration of 100 years. In those years there have been many changes and progress. We would like to see more progress here and it could easily happen if enough people really wanted that. Small town America should be more than it is now, especially here. Every main street should be full with small viable businesses making each town a thriving town. Only 15 miles away or so, they have found a way to do that by supporting each other and their town. Many young people are moving in every month and many run the businesses on their main street. I wish the same could happen here, especially with young people moving in. I want them to come here and tell us how it can be done. There is usually a good reason for why it is not happening and it is usually because of older or more established people of all things, who have lived here their entire lives. I am talking about the people who make the decisions about who will come into town. It should be more vibrant. More young people should be welcomed and not just those who are related to those who are already here. So as progress is right now on our doorstep, this time I hope the townspeople might ask themselves, why wouldn't I want new people moving in and operating businesses? It's a good question to ask.
